No matter who you are, it's normal to have habits, belief systems and reactions that get in your way. These forms of "interference" can look like perfectionism, comparison, lack of confidence, never feeling like enough, fear, and feeling like you always need to do more or be more.

The best antidote I’ve found is a potent mixture of mindfulness, sports psychology and positive psychology, that includes a healthy dose of nervous system awareness.

You don’t have to be tougher, push harder or stop feeling fear to get the results you want.

When you work with your thoughts, emotions and nervous system as an integrated unit:

  • You can shift from critical to supportive self talk.
  • You can expand your comfort zone, without burnout, anxiety or overwhelm.
  • You can respond purposefully, rather than reactively, when triggered.
  • You can use your “unwanted” emotions to guide you through challenges.

The fact is most purpose driven people struggle to find the time and energy to truly live the life they want.

But life is too fleeting to fall short of your dreams because an outdated system doesn’t recognize the power available when you slow down to connect and work with all aspects of yourself.

Are you overriding your nervous system?

Although some activation in the nervous system will help achieve tasks, too much or too little activation shuts down the ability to think and process information. When you try to override your nervous system, you will likely end up in survival mode, reacting instinctively and no longer learning.


Are you judging your thoughts & emotions?

When you judge your thoughts and emotions as good or bad, you miss out on the opportunity to learn from them. Emotions and thoughts are simply information, holding messages that offer you insight into your experience, and what to do next.


Are you trying to “buy” the results?

When you are feeling stuck, or not sure how to solve a problem, it’s easy to look outside yourself for the answer. It’s easy to trick yourself into believing that the latest gadget or course can help you skip the uncomfortable moments, and save you from yourself.


Are you avoiding being honest with yourself?

When who you want to be isn’t in alignment with your current results, it’s easy to fall into a trap of negative emotions and thoughts. The common response is try to fake it until you make it, but there’s a difference between practicing positivity and bypassing reality.

mPEAK (Mindfulness, Performance Enhancement, Awareness & Knowledge) is an intensive course in mindfulness training for athletes, professionals, first-responder and anyone seeking to achieve their goals, as well as attain new levels of performance and well-being. It was developed in conjunction with the US Olympic BMX Cycling Team in 2014, as a collaboration between the coaches of the team, UC San Diego neuroscientists Drs. Lori Haase and Martin Paulus, and the UCSD Center for Mindfulness Leadership Team.

I'm Jodine Buydens

With the world as my classroom, I learned my leadership skills from 1200 lb animals, mastered my mental performance with mindfulness, and know that real shifts happen when we include the nervous system, whether we are breaking old patterns or creating new ones.

I'm passionate about supporting purpose-driven people as they explore the furthest edges of their potential, and align with the deeper truths of who they are.
